David Lu, whom I mentioned in my blog before, has another site up, a showcase of his works or drawings using Processing (java), and C#. I am continually impressed by David’s work. He has even updated his portfolio site. He is one that I aspire to be when it comes to creation of computational drawings. I can only wish that someday I can grasp the computational medium as much as he does. Here is his artist statement:
“I write software to help create drawings. I am interested in evoking imagined, otherworldly structures in my work. My software produces visual results that are not purely generative, but rather semi-automatic: a human input is required. Gesture input via mouse or pen tablet can produce a highly stylized drawing. A scanned fingerprint can give way to a screen-based architecture (which one could argue is a dynamic, 3-dimensional drawing). Some of these drawings are completely static, destined for print. Others exhibit time-based qualities, echoing aspects of the artist’s recorded gesture.
Each piece of software I write influences the direction of subsequent studies. The trajectory of my work follows a moving target.”
